On 17 September 2011, an estimated 1000 people attended on the first day of the Occupy Wall Street people’s nonviolent resistance movement in New York City, USA, to resist a corrupt corporatocracy that robs and kills the people of the nation and of the world in the name of democracy.

“Occupy Wall Street, or #occupywallstreet, is an ongoing nonviolent demonstration[1] opposing what participants view as negative corporate influence over US politics and a lack of legal repercussions over the global financial crisis.[2] It was inspired by the Arab Spring movement, particularly the protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square which resulted in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.[3] The aim of the demonstration is to begin a sustained occupation of Wall Street, the financial district of New York City. Organizers intend for the occupation to last “a few months.”[4] …The demonstration is leaderless,[7] although it was originally proposed by Adbusters, a Canadian anti-consumerist magazine. Despite the organizers’ insistence that the occupation would remain non-violent, some commentators in the media and financial sector raised fears of violent intentions in the run-up to the event. In an interview with The New American, Ron Arnold of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise claimed that:

I have a message for Ron Arnold (of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise): You are speaking untruth when you spread info that VIOLENT uprisings are being planned. In truth, NONVIOLENT UPRISINGS are being planned, that’s for sure. To topple your system of capitalism? Yes, more or less. Your system of capitalism is highly dysfunctional. And, btw, the violent terrorists are within your establishment, Ron Arnold — among the worshippers of Free Enterprise.
Freedom to THE PEOPLE; not the corporations! Does the US Constitution say, “All CORPORATIONS have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” The corporatocracy has twisted reality to suit its own madness.
Nonviolent resistance to corrupt power is our moral duty; otherwise we become cooperators with and enablers of the forces of tyranny.
