While the majority of Egyptians who participated in protests last Friday disagreed with what a small number of protesters did in attacking the empty Israeli embassy and break its door, but we also have to put things in its perspective. When Israel killed 6 Egyptian officers few days before this, the international media didn’t cover it that much (only as secondary news) and there was no outrage about the murders. When a few Egyptian angry protesters broke the door of the entrance to the empty Israel embassy, the president of the United States interfered and asked Egypt to adhere to the Geneva conventions but mentioned nothing about the Egyptian LIVES that were lost just few days before at the hands of Israel’s army. Egyptians did the revolution to get their dignity back and we will never accept again our lives to be regarded as cheap.
I know how many Westerners feel about Israel and some support Israel almost blindly but isn’t it time that we look at things in a neutral way without listening to biased media and only one side of the story? Many Egyptians thought that American public will support Mubarak against Egyptians during the revolution but were shocked to find them supporting Egyptians from the first day. Egyptians thought so because of biased Mubarak’s media and I think it is time everyone looks at things in a different way and start to listen to the other opinion and other side of the story.
Could it be that Israel (God forbid) did something wrong and killed innocent lives? Is this possible? Can you say that about the Israeli government while not being called anti-semitic? Is opposing Israel’s government policies (and murder) a taboo?
I hope our open minded members will understand.
N.B. The 6 Egyptian officers were killed by internationally prohibited bullets in killing positions not just random shots. Egypt & Israel have been in peace for more than 35 years during which not a single Israeli was attacked by Egyptian army, only Egyptians were killed many times before.
